I have removed an untold number of CD drives from laptops with no problems. Remove the one screw on the bottom plate, and pull out the drive. Well. I have a Toshiba Satellite L25 laptop in which I intended to replace the CD drive with a secondary HDD holder that slips into it's place. Have used this in other computers. However....that CD drive will NOT come out of the Laptop. I removed the screw, of course. I loosened the back cover screws in the vicinity of the drive thinking maybe the back cover is too tight....no dice. I pulled on the drive with vicegrips....could move it less than a quarter inch that way by pulling hard. Can't find any hidden screws anywhere. Could this computer have an extra screw in the drive under the keyboard?? I can't think of anything else. There is no evidence of damage to the keyboard visible from the top, so I evidently did not damage anything serious because everything still works. This is a very early laptop, XP. I have to keep an XP computer according to my Marantz PMD570 digital recorder manual to do the update on it's hardware, like I am ever going to get brave enough to try THAT! Which is another problem I will detail here sometime.
