Bizarre problem with female USB

I have a strange problem with a USB socket on my ASUS X515 laptop.
I have been using this socket since I bought the laptop without any issues.
But suddenly I found that the male USB plug would not fit.
On inspection I saw that some kind of small bolt has appeared which prevents a USB plug being inserted. See the attached photo.
This is not a foreign object which has somehow fallen into the socket. The screw/bolt emerges from the side of the socket.
Can anyone shed any light on this and suggest how I might fix it?
