Hi everyone. When i start my pc the screen stays black. After about 20 seconds the fans start spinning like crazy. I took my gpu out, started it again and it did the same thing. Any idea what could be the issue?

Since removing the GPU didn't change the situation, here are a few steps you can try to diagnose the issue:

  1. Reset CMOS/BIOS:
    • Turn off your PC and unplug it.
    • Remove the CMOS battery (a coin-sized battery on the motherboard) for a few minutes, then put it back in. This resets the BIOS settings, which can sometimes resolve boot issues.
  2. Check RAM:
    • Try reseating your RAM by taking it out and reinserting it firmly.
    • If you have multiple RAM sticks, try booting with one stick at a time to see if one might be faulty.
  3. Check Power Supply:
    • Make sure your PSU (power supply unit) is working correctly. If possible, try using a different PSU or testing yours with a multimeter to ensure it’s delivering the right voltage.
  4. Inspect CPU and Cooling:
    • Check the CPU to make sure it's seated properly, and ensure that the thermal paste hasn't dried up.
    • Ensure the CPU cooler is properly installed, as overheating can cause fans to go into high speed.
  5. Test with Minimal Components:
    • Disconnect non-essential peripherals like storage drives, extra fans, or USB devices.
    • Try starting the PC with only the CPU, 1 stick of RAM, and the motherboard to see if you get any response.
  6. Monitor Beep Codes/LED Indicators:
    • If your motherboard has an onboard speaker, listen for any beep codes when starting the system.
    • Check the motherboard for diagnostic LEDs or codes that might indicate where the problem lies.
If none of these work, it may point to a more serious issue with your motherboard or CPU. Let me know what you find after trying these steps!
